"Every child has a story to tell. And every story, is worth sharing."
Sometimes all they need is the right space, a little guidance, and the encouragement to begin.

Why learn comics?
Most children love stories.
They imagine characters, funny moments, magical creatures,
and adventures from everyday life.
but they are often unable to express their thoughts,
Because most art classes focus only on the technique.
Children learn how to copy drawings or paint landscapes —
but they rarely learn something much more important:
How to be original and express their ideas?

Children are naturally full of ideas — constantly imagining, observing, and creating. But without the right outlet, many of these ideas simply fade away.
Modern lifestyles leave children with fewer opportunities to explore their creativity. Passive screen time often replaces activities that encourage imagination and self-expression.
Developmental research shows that childhood is a crucial time for building lasting habits. During the elementary school years, children’s brains are highly adaptable, and repeated activities can quickly become routines that stay with them as they grow.
This is why giving children a simple creative practice during these years can make a meaningful difference.
And one of the most engaging ways to do that is through comics.

Meet your teacher!

Hello! I am Sameera Maruvada and I am a cartoonist, writer, and storyteller from India. I began my creative journey 11 years ago by sharing art tutorials on YouTube.
My satirical comics on gender and social commentary, published under the name Saltandsambar, have gained millions of views and got me recognition from platforms such as the TEDx, The Hindu, The Indian Express, Sakshi, TV5 News, and Eenadu.
Beyond my work as a cartoonist and writer, I am known for making comics accessible and enjoyable for beginners. I have been invited as a guest at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore to teach comics and have been conducting comic summer camps at the Novotel Visakhapatnam since 2023.

Growing up, I had to change schools frequently because of my parents’ careers. Each move meant starting over - new classrooms, new systems, and the challenge of making friends all over again.
As a quiet and introverted child, I often struggled to fit in. I was bullied at school and spent many years feeling like I didn’t quite belong anywhere. During those years, my father introduced me to journaling, and it slowly became my refuge.
My journals and sketchbooks became my constant companions — a place where I could process my thoughts, express my feelings, and create worlds of my own. I filled them with stories, drawings, and imaginary characters. In those pages, I found comfort, courage, and a voice of my own.
After completing my graduation, when I made the decision to pursue my passion full-time, creating Young Comic Creators has been my constant calling.
My hope is to make every child feel seen, belonged, and provide them with tools that help them express themselves creatively. And not just that, I want children to find a like-minded creative community that supports and inspires them.

Me back when I was spending sleepless nights filming YouTube tutorials on my own during my college days in my hostel in Bangalore

The course is priced in between INR 15,000-INR 20,000
The course is designed for children between 6–13 years old. However, what matters most is the child’s interest in storytelling and creativity, not just age. If your child enjoys drawing characters, imagining stories, or creating their own worlds, they will feel right at home in this course.
Absolutely. This program is designed specifically for beginners.
Children don’t need to be “good at drawing” to start making comics. In fact, comics are more about ideas, storytelling, and expression than perfect drawing. Throughout the course, I teach simple ways to draw faces, characters, expressions, and scenes so that children can quickly turn their ideas into comics.
Many children who join start with very basic drawing skills, and by the end of the program they are able to create their own original comic stories with confidence.
The course is designed to keep children engaged through short, structured lessons and creative prompts.
Since the lessons are pre-recorded, children can learn at their own pace, revisit lessons anytime, and explore the modules that excite them most. Some children finish quickly, while others like to take their time experimenting with their ideas.
Even if the child is not inspired to draw at the moment (believe me, that happens to the best of artists!), make sure that they are checking out the Discord community to stay connected and inspired from their peers. Once they get back their spark, they will be unstoppable :)
The course officially begins on May 1st. Pre-recorded lessons will be released week by week starting from that date. All the details will be sent to your inbox upon enrollment. (Please check your promotions and spam folders if you don't receive the emails.) While the course is 6 weeks long, there will be one extra week given to the students for working on their final project.
The course includes pre-recorded lessons that children can watch anytime at their own pace.
In addition, there are weekly live group feedback sessions where students can share their work and receive guidance.
Live group feedback sessions will take place every Thursday at 10AM IST and they are 45min each.
These timings are tentative and the exact day and time will be decided based on consensus once the onboarding survey form is filled by the parents, upon enrolling. All live sessions will be recorded, so students can watch them later if they miss one.
Children can start with basic stationery such as paper or a sketchbook, pencil, eraser, black sketch pens and color pencils. Detailed material list will be sent to email upon enrollment.
The course is designed to fit easily into a child’s routine.
• About 1 hour of recorded lessons per week
• About 30min -1 hour for exercises and prompts
• 45min of optional live sessions that they can join.
Children are also encouraged to build a 15-minute daily creative habit, though this is flexible.
Yes, children can draw digitally if they prefer. However, drawing on paper is recommended, and the instructor will be demonstrating using paper.
That’s completely fine. The program is self-paced, and children can complete the exercises whenever they are ready. They can continue to attend the live feedback sessions to learn and get inspired from their peer's works.
At the moment, I do not offer 1:1 sessions.
From my experience teaching both live classes and pre-recorded lessons on platforms like Skillshare and YouTube, I’ve noticed that live sessions tend to benefit children who already have the basics of drawing and storytelling in place.
For beginners, a structured pre-recorded course with optional live feedback often works better. It allows children to learn at their own pace, pause and rewatch lessons, and explore the modules that interest them most depending on their energy and curiosity. They can also bring their work and questions to the live feedback sessions, where I review their progress and guide them further.
Another important part of learning is peer inspiration. In this program, children will also be part of a small community where they can share their work and see what other young creators are making. Peer learning often motivates children far more than individual instruction.
In the future, I may offer small group cohorts for students who have completed this beginner program and would like to continue developing their storytelling and comic-making skills.
Students can receive feedback during the weekly live group sessions, where drawings and assignments are discussed together. While it may not be possible to provide individual 1:1 feedback to every student each week, the sessions focus on common questions, challenges, and examples from student work. This allows children to learn not only from their own feedback but also from the ideas and progress of other students.
Students may also receive occasional feedback and tips in the student community.
Yes. A 2-month payment plan is available so families can spread the cost into smaller monthly payments.
Yes. The course includes a 14-day money-back guarantee.
If the program isn’t the right fit for your child, you can request a full refund within 14 days, (starting from the date of commencement of the program, which is May 1st) — no questions asked.
No problem! Please reach out to sameera@saltandsambar.com for inquiries and support.

In this 6-week program, your child will learn how to turn their ideas into drawings, their drawings into stories, and their stories into their very first comic book.
